Join the Resolution Revolution

This January, we’re kicking off one of our biggest campaigns yet!

Ever wanted to make a change, but not really known where to start? Come along for the ride and be part of the Resolution Revolution!

What is the Resolution Revolution?

The Resolution Revolution’s exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a time to make new resolutions, stick ‘em out, and form new habits that are great for people and planet.

We’ve been looking at the science of habits, and there are some pretty key things to learn about making and breaking habits.

For one, a habit isn’t just what you actively start doing repeatedly. Habits can also be actions that we do every day that we don’t even think are habits – things like remembering how to drive or picking up our phone when we wake up in the morning are both habits!

Our brain loves habits because it can spend less energy thinking about doing them. This is why it can take between 30 and 60 days to break a habit, as well as form new ones!

From 1 January to 11 March, join us on the journey to break old habits and make new ones, all in the name of doing good!

We’re leading an impact revolution that starts with YOU – are you ready?

Why now?

You can form a new habit whenever you want; there’s no scientific proof that starting something new is better or easier at the start of the year!

However, we agree that a new year can feel like a totally fresh start.

So, from 1 January, we’re with you every step of the way. Form new habits and get stuck into a  brand new way of doing good. Have a look at what we’ve got in store for you, so that you’re ready as soon as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve!

How should I start?

It can be tricky to know where to begin when you want to pick up a new habit! Start strong with some of the month-long pledges we’re supporting on the OnHand app:

🍻 Dry January

Commit to cutting out alcohol for the whole month of January. Alcohol can affect our physical health and our mood, so give it a go and see how you feel!

🌱 Veganuary

Going vegan is one of the best things you can do for the planet! Cut out animal products (including meat, dairy, and eggs) to do some real good for the climate.

🚭 Quit Smoking

Ditch the smoking habit in the new year and track your progress through the OnHand app! Put your health first by quitting smoking and embarking on a new journey.

💆 Wellbeing For All Webinar

You’re officially invited to the next instalment of OnHand’s impact series on 25 January! OnHand CEO will be chatting with Gethin Nadin (best-selling HR author) and Charlie Allen (founder at Run Social) about the state of the nation’s wellbeing and what changes we can make for the sake of better mental health. Learn about wellbeing to change your wellbeing habits and what you do for the people around you!

The best part? You don’t have to wait – you can sign up right now!

Our new habit tracker

We’ve also got an exciting new release coming soon, specifically designed to give you a boost with your resolutions when it feels hardest to keep them up!

Our habit tracker feature is going to seriously boost your pledge commitment. When you accept a pledge with a time limit (for example, Veggie Dinners, which involves pledging to eat vegetarian dinners for a week), you’ll now be able to track your weekly veggie-dinner-eating in-app, and you’ll be able to mark your pledge as complete once you’ve tracked your days.

Want some more examples of pledges you can track in-app? Have a go at…

🥗 Veggie Dinners

Pledge to ditch the meat and only eat vegetarian or vegan for 5 meals during the week!

🥛 Dairy Alternative

Swap the dairy for oat, soya, almond, or another plant-based milk of choice! You’ll need to do this 5 times in a week to complete the pledge.

🚫 No New Clothes

Pledge to buy no new clothes and fight fast fashion! Complete this pledge once over one week.

⌨️ Take Digital Notes

Make a habit of taking digital notes instead of paper notes to reduce waste. Do this 5 times in a week to complete this pledge!

🛍️ Refuse Plastic Bags

Refuse plastic shopping bags in favour of reusable bags twice in a week to complete this pledge.

Can I do more than pledges?

Absolutely! Creating new habits isn’t just for pledges, and we want to help you make anything into a habit. Check out some other charitable things you can get involved with throughout the Resolution Revolution, and who knows? Maybe you’ll start doing some of these things regularly 👏

January’s Poverty Awareness Month, so it’s a great time to get into the habit of:

🥫 Donating to your local food bank

👕 Donating to your local clothing bank or charity shop

🧼 Donating hygiene products

Make a habit out of doing things to help those living in poverty! Even though we don’t all have the funds or resources to make large regular donations, a packet of biscuits to your local food bank or a bottle of shaving cream to your local hygiene bank once a week can make a big difference when added up.

And if you want to make a habit out of learning new things, stick around for LGBTQ+ History Month in February, where you’ll be able to commit to:

💪 Speaking out against LGBTQ+ injustices

📙 Broadening your reading options to include more LGBTQ+ authors

📺 Learning about LGBTQ+ history through film, TV, and documentaries

Watch this space, because there’s loads more where that came from!

Point is, there are so many habits you can commit to during our Resolution Revolution, habits that are great for other people around you, as well as making you feel good too!

And don’t forget…

At least 8 times out of 10, you’re more likely to fall back into your old habits than you are to stick with a new behaviour.

Building new habits is hard, and the science proves it! It’s okay if picking up a new pledge or getting into a new volunteering thing is hard for you, but just think of how much good you’re doing by committing to regular volunteering.

With some fab rewards on the line (including tree prizes), we hope you’ll give it a go and come out the other side of the Resolution Revolution with some do-good habits for life.

From 1 January, say hi to a new year, a new you, and a Resolution Revolution.
